THE STORY OF THE ORIGIN OF LA VINA MINISTRY

The practice of faith has always been the anchor of my life. In seeking to learn more of my faith, the Church and spiritual things, I Mariano Santana participated in the "Lay Ecclesial Ministry Program" from 2011 to 2013 here in Las Vegas Diocese. One of the positive impacts of the program was an increased desire to serve the Roman Catholic community here in the diocese. So, I prayed to the Lord about my desire asking what I can do in order to serve the Church better. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I heard the inner voice calling me to the ministry of evangelization. While this process of discernment went on, I was also discussing as well as consulting with some priests to guide me appropriately in order to answer the call faithfully. The product of these prayerful and spiritual processes is the conception of a ministry that would include, but not limited to, spiritual retreats, spiritual renewal programs and spiritual growth programs. It was a prayer answered for me.
I was also blessed with the guidance of Marc Gonzales from the Department of Faith & Ministry Formation, Office of Lay Ecclesial Ministry, at the Diocese of Las Vegas. He was instrumental in assisting me to create a nonprofit organization called La Vina Inc. in December 2012. (La Vina stands for "The Vineyard of the Lord.") Providential, around the same period, through the grace of God, my wife Maria Luz and I purchased 5.84 acres of land in Overton, Nevada. The purpose of purchasing the land was primarily to be used as a retreat campus and other programs that will take place at La Vina. All of these will be through the guidelines of the Roman Catholic Church in the Diocese of Las Vegas. The location of the acquired land is awarded from the distractions of the City of Las Vegas. It is perfect because the location is outside of the city but not too far from the city for convenience sake. It is about one and a half hour drive. La Vina Inc. goal is to create a quiet, safe, peaceful environment for prayers and other spiritual programs.
I have discussed my inspiration with friends, family, and other members of the laity from several parishes in the Diocese. They were also inspired with the vision of ministry of evangelization through retreats, spiritual and educational growth programs in La Vina Inc. Many of them were very ready and eager to participate in the ministry; thus, we elected for the first time ever the La Vina Inc. 5 of the Directors to run the operations. That is the story of La Vina Inc., ministry so far since the idea was conceived back in December 2012. Those members of the Board of Directors included:
